The Dream
by Pauline Lacey
In brilliant technicolour
I once had a dream
Like stepping into a movie
The set of a biblical scene
I saw a great big crowd
Hundreds standing all around
Dressed as in the time of Christ
Talking together was their sound
I noticed as I stood amongst them
We were in a massive square
Before a large Roman building
White columns and a marble stair
A young man stood before me
I could not see his face
Then the crowd began to part
Coming through one, filled with grace
She had a holiness in her bearing
A nobleness, sensed by the crowd
Who stepped back with reverence
And did not talk so loud
Strange how the crowd reacted
They knew not her name
She was not dressed in finery.
To the young man she came.
I realized he was the apostle John
Seeing Mary He gave a solemn bow
She asked him "what is happening"
O mother they are scourging Him now.
