1. The Resurrection
If you are joyful, look at Him … risen. Just imagining how He rose from the tomb will bring you joy. The brilliance! The beauty! The majesty! How victorious! How joyful! Indeed, like one coming forth from a battle where he has gained a great kingdom. And all of the, plus Himself, He desires for you. Well, is it such a big thing that from time to time you turn your eyes to look upon one who give you so much?
(St Teresa of Jesus, The Way of Perfection Ch. 26, p.4)
2. The Ascension
Divine Word, you have ascended to that inaccessible light which is your dwelling place from this day onward. You also remain with us in this valley of tears, hidden under the appearance of the sacred host … Eternal Eagle, you want to nourish me with Your divine sustenance – me, that poor little being who would be nothing without Your divine glance which gives me life.
(Story of a Soul, Man B 5v)
3. The Descent of the Holy Spirit
It seems to me the Holy Spirit must be a mediator between the soul and God, the One Who moves it with such ardent desires, for He enkindles it in a sup0erior fire, which is so near. O Lord, how great are these mercies You show to the soul here! May You be blessed and praised forever, for You are so good a Lover!
(St Teresa of Jesus, Meditation on the Song of Songs, Ch. 5, p.5)
4. The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
…If my heart had not been raised to God from the dawn of reason, if the world had smiled on me from my entrance into reason, if the world had smiled on me from my entrance into life, what would have become of me? O my dear Mother, with what gratitude I sing the Mercies of the Lord! Did He not according to the words of Wisdom: “…draw me from the world before my spirit was corrupted by its malice and before its deceitful appearances had seduced my soul?” The Blessed Virgin, too, watched over her little flower and not wanting her to be tarnished by contact with worldly things, drew her to her mountain before she blossomed. While awaiting the moment, little Terese grew in love for her heavenly Mother.
(Story of a Soul, Man A 40v)
5. The Coronation of Our Lady, Queen of Heaven
I saw flowing down from Jesus’ heart, the fullness of grace into the Virgin’s heart.
From there it flows to the members as the stream of life.
And again, there came a day when she, the Blessed One
Was borne on high by a choir of angels
Up to the throne of the Almighty. Her head was adorned with a crown of stars.
And like the sun she was bathed in heavenly light.
But now I knew I was bound to her
From eternity in accordance with God’s direction – forever.
My life was only a beam of hers.
